A bill known as the Primary Caregiver Bill is on its way to Governor Bill Lee’s desk. The bill would give a non-violent offender who is a primary caregiver community-based alternatives instead of jail time. The bill sponsored by Democrats Brenda Gilmore of Nashville and Leader Karen Camper of Memphis was passed by the Tennessee legislature earlier this week. Supporters say one of the most traumatic things that can happen to a child is to be taken away from its mother.
